My only complaint about XFCE is that I wish they had already switched to Wayland by now so they could eliminate screen tearing, especially on systems equipped with Nvidia GPUs.
Freedombox is an interesting project. In addition to ad removal, it can do a number of other things, including contacts, calendars, wikis, IRC, and voice chat.
